Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero Lodge

Lodge style Tranquillity on a hillside

A getaway for everyone

A safari chic lodge, with modern touches: Chobe Chilwero borders the elephant rich Chobe National Park in northern Botswana, known as one of the best wildlife parks of Africa. In a peaceful setting on a hill above the Chobe River, the lodge offers unparalleled panoramic views across the islands and floodplains as far as Namibia. Ancient views and landscapes, in a contemporary setting; at Chobe Chilwero you will get best of both worlds. In your room is an iPad ready for personal use, all the cottages have complimentary WiFi and the spa offers pampering treatments for tired travellers. Can it get any better? Well, yes. Not only is Chobe National Park renowned for its large elephant herds, but also prepare for encounters with countless buffalo, elegant antelope, giraffe, hippo, amazing birdlife and predators such as lion, cheetah and hyena. With a staff attending to every detail – including preparing amazing meals and a hot bath after a long day – there isn’t much left to wish for at this lodge.

Chobe Chilwero’s fifteen air-conditioned luxury cottages all command fabulous views. Private, luxurious and spacious: these are the keywords when it comes to the accommodations. Each has its own en-suite, spa-like bathroom with large, freestanding bath. For a good wake up on early mornings, we highly recommend using the indoor shower, or – even better – the outdoor shower. There is nothing like showering during sunrise in the fresh morning air. You will also find toiletries, a private garden with hammock, private balcony, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, hairdryer, minibar and complimentary WiFi in your cottage. And, as mentioned, there is a preloaded iPad ready for every guest in each room. For amazingly cold drinks, excellent meals and sharing stories with other guests, walk to the main areas. Get comfortable in the lounge and dining room, linked to shaded outdoor viewing patios. Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea (with great homemade pastries) and dinner are served daily, with romantic private dinners arranged for those celebrating special occasions. If you feel like you deserved more pampering, and of course you do, there is a great spa, offering a range of treatments with seductive names as African Goddess Anti-Aging Facial, or Soul Africa Conditioning Body Massage. The spa also includes a treatment room elevated in the treetops. Kick back after your treatment at the spacious, split-level swimming pool, set away from the main guest area. Or, look for souvenirs in the curio shop for take home to the loved ones.

Activities at Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero Lodge

The guides at Chobe National park, with knowledge and insight - and eyes like hawks - are the ones that bring the area to life. Not only will they identify and fully inform you about the different wildlife in the park, but they will also explain their role in this amazing ecosystem. What activities can you expect at Chobe Chilwero? First, there are two game drives, scheduled in the morning and afternoon. Wake up with fresh coffee, tea and a light breakfast before you venture out. Expect a lot of elephants during your activity, as the largest population left in Africa occupies this northeast corner between Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe. In addition to these awesome, grey giants, the drives in open-sided 4x4 vehicles bring you close to hippos, buffalos, puku and other animals that gather on the banks of the Chobe River. And, don’t forget about exploring the river. This lodge offers two different Chobe River cruises: one photographic safari cruise, with a special boat featuring 360 degree swivel seats; a picture perfect spot for photo-enthusiasts. And of course there is the famous, sundowner cruise: sip a cocktail while you glide down the tranquil Chobe River, with a spectacular sunset on the horizon. The perfect ending to a fantastic safari day - or should we say ‘elephantastic’ day?

Tripadvisor comments Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero

We can not say enough good things about this lodge. The staff attend to every detail and make your stay very special. The unique combination of a morning land game drive and an evening boat game drive provides excellent opportunity to see many wild animals and birds from distinctly different perspectives./p> from Ottowa, Canada

Chobe Chilwero is just fantastic! Huge rooms and bathrooms including a private veranda with an outside shower. Tastefully decorated. Every day there is a game drive in the morning and a river cries in the afternoon. The food was exceptional and the chef should be rated Michelin stars. We saw so many elephants! Every day at about 2 PM baboons visited us. Highly recommend when visiting Krueger area or Victoria Falls!
