Chobe Savanna Lodge

Lodge style Family time

Take me to the river

After travelling up stream for about an hour, while greeted by elephants and other wildlife seeking refreshment along the banks of the Chobe River, you will arrive at this secluded safari lodge. Chobe Savanna Lodge is situated in the eastern Caprivi Strip of Namibia, a few kilometres up river from Chobe Game Lodge, and is only accessible by boat. The lodge overlooks the vast floodplains of the Chobe National Park’s Puku Flats, making for stunning vistas from all of the cosy nooks and charming guest areas. Watch elephant herds passing by during sunset, countless zebras, hippos swimming in the river, and many more inhabitants of this amazing game park, while you are sipping a glass of African wine or enjoying a carefully prepared meal by the chef. General manager Andre and his wife Anne Marie are a true dream team, and would love to join you for dinner to share their passion and stories about this land. The lodge is family friendly, making it a perfect place to create some lasting family memories. Because how many kids are able to reminisce about a personal encounter with a tangling giraffe? Or be woken up by the sound of hippos lolling at night? Exactly.

With just thirteen chalets this recently re-decorated lodge is the place for a peaceful, intimate getaway. Let all the rushing about and endless to-do list slide off your shoulders when you step on the boat and glide down the Chobe River, towards Chobe Savanna Lodge. After a day full of safari activities you can retreat in your comfortable room, which has been stocked with everything you might need. The beautifully furnished thatched chalets, each with a private deck, have an integrated bedroom, lounge area, and en-suite facilities. Every chalet is air-conditioned, and comes with eco-friendly amenities and its own complimentary mini bar. But, most importantly, the rooms all boast a 270-degree view over the Chobe National Park. So when the first morning rays wake you up at dawn and you step out on your deck for a big stretch, there is a good chance you will be greeted by an elephant family going in for a morning splash.

Activities at Chobe Savanna Lodge

Chobe Savanna Lodge is a unique water-based camp, taking you to places not many visitors will ever see. The boat excursions offer to take guests up the river to remote places where few, if any, other operators visit. From the water you will get an entirely new perspective on the abundance of wildlife: river excursions in small, easily manoeuvrable boats are ideal for close encounters with wildlife visiting the river’s edge. If you feel like having your feet planted in firm soil for a few hours, the camp also offers exhilarating nature walks, fishing and birding (only over 300 bird species to spot!). For a more in-depth experience and better understanding of the local culture, an excursion to a nearby Caprivian fishing village can be arranged as well. So you have lots of options, but your typical safari day will always look something like this: after waking up to a canopy of birds sounds and a light continental breakfast, you will leave for your morning wildlife activity during those early hours of the day when wildlife is very active. When you come back, an extensive homemade brunch awaits you, followed by a well-deserved siesta. Before you head out for the afternoon activity, tea and pastries are served. By arriving back at the lodge, it is time for a drink at sunset and dinner under a star-studded sky. (Don’t forget to notice the thoughtful wee messages in the butter.)

The welcome song, the facilities, the food, the staff, the rooms... EVERYTHING was beyond amazing. The view from our room was like that of a dream. Elephants everywhere! This is a place that MUST be visited before you die. Seriously. We will be back.

What an amazing lodge, right on the banks of the Chobe river. Very comfortable, not over the top opulence, just good old home feelings! John, Lally and the entire crew are absolutely off the top shelf. Attentive, friendly, always willing to go the extra mile and just GREAT fun company.
