Lodge style Wildly beautiful

On the move

There is something about camping. Time will unfurl at a slower pace once you settle down in front of your tent, with a soft breeze lifting up your hair and your feet firmly placed on Chobe earth. But now take a minute and think of camping without worrying about finding a good spot to pitch your tent, walking to public toilets or trying to cook over a small fire pit. This is why you want to be at Savute Under Canvas. Located in the Savute corner of game-laden Chobe National Park lies this, luxurious, private tented safari camp. The camp is semi-mobile, as you move to a different campsite every five or six days, providing you with the opportunity to really discover the area. Using only secluded wildlife campsites, this African experience brings you up-close-and-personal to wildlife. The tents are carefully positioned as close to the resident game as possible. It is all about best of both worlds: rustic camping, but with the comfort of a luxurious tent, delicious meals underneath the stars and – best of all – wildlife parading right in front of your canvas.

Forget every damp and droopy camping experience you ever had. Although this tented camp is mobile and relocates every couple of days, it is amazing what the staff pulls off every time. Wake up and revitalise by taking a steaming hot shower in your en-suite bathroom (hot water delivered on request). Plant yourself on the shaded veranda with your morning coffee and simply enjoy the smaller details of riverside life. After an exhilarating day, crispy linens and a soft double bed embrace your weary body. Lay down and listen to hippos honking, nocturnal wildlife emerging from their hiding places and the sweet evening breeze rustling through the leaves. Breakfast the next day is served in the guest areas: comfortable tents for dining, pre-dinner cocktails or just whiling away the time between game drives.

Activities at &Beyond Savute Under Canvas

This arid region of the Chobe is known for the enigmatic and mysterious Savute Channel. Alternately flowing and drying up, it attracts a large number of lions and the annual zebra migration (usually around March). Gaze at the open plains and stand in awe of the impressive baobab trees. Your guide will make sure you experience the lush mysticism you cannot find anywhere else in the world. Let the deep voice of your butler wake you up in the morning with tea or coffee and homemade biscuits. Then climb in the 4x4 vehicle to track down wildlife. All guides at Savute Under Canvas seem to really understand the animals and their behaviour. They will also never give up spotting that one remaining animal on your wish list. Return to the camp for a hearty breakfast, a well-earned nap and lunch in the cool shade, before the time comes to venture out again. Depart on an afternoon game drive as the heat of the day starts to dissipate. Gaze at thirsty wildlife arriving at nearby watering holes for a quaff - perhaps elephant, zebra or tsessebe – and listen to the myriads of birds inhabiting this area (over 500 species). Upon returning to the camp, you are spoiled with an unpolluted African sky and millions of stars. Dinner is served around a blazing fire: a great chance to meet other travellers while the staff pops open the wine and serves amazing food from a small kitchen. This is camping in the comfort of full and personalised service: a true escape from our fast-paced world.

Tripadvisor comments Savute Under Canvas

It could not be better! This camp was unbelievable wonderful. Everything: the site, the tent, the people, the animals, the surroundings, the food - EVERYTHING. I can only recommend this camp at the highest. Go there and see the most incredible nature you have ever seen in your life.

You don't go for the luxury. You go to experience nature with guides will teach you more than you ever learned in school about animals, birds, trees, land... I will never forget the experience of sleeping in a real tent: moves every 5 days, eat campfire food that tastes like it is from a 4 star restaurant and be exposed to so much in such a short time. I highly recommend it and would go again in a heartbeat.
